What Is CBD?

Cannabis or hemp plants contain a substance called CBD. It is a member of the exclusive to cannabis plants group of terpenophenolic chemicals known as cannabinoids. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBN (cannabinol), among others, are two further common cannabinoids.

Because CBD has health enhancing qualities without negative side effects, patients and medical researchers are particularly interested in it.

The Brain and Body and CBD

Your endocannabinoid system, an internal network of receptors dispersed throughout your body, is what causes CBD to have an impact on you. Both the internal endocannabinoids produced by your own cells and the external cannabinoids present in cannabis plants activate these receptors.

The cannabinoid that makes you “high,” THC, is absolutely non-intoxicating; CBD is not. The value lies in the more subdued effects.

1. Anxiety

CBD is frequently promoted as a remedy for anxiety. Current research “indicates CBD has considerable potential as a therapy for many anxiety disorders,” according to a study published in Neurotherapeutics.

2. Pain

Alternative pain relievers are receiving more attention as a result of the drawbacks of opioids and their propensity to require bigger doses in order to get the same therapeutic impact. Although there is controversy over CBD’s ability to effectively treat acute pain, numerous studies suggest that the substance may be able to lessen chronic pain. THC and CBD together are extremely beneficial.

3. Inflammation

Clinical research has shown that CBD lessens inflammation and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It has been demonstrated that the combination of CBD and other cannabinoids, such as cannabigerol (CBG), has anti-inflammatory properties. To emphasize the lower efficacious doses among other pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors, more research must be done.
